Library and Archives Canada Awards Contract to Cogniva
RK Compliance & Semantic Infrastructure Development. Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is in the process of finalizing the development of a Documentation Standard for Government Programs, Activities and Results. Documentation standards will be a key component in the development of organizational recordkeeping in government departments and agencies. Additionally, LAC is planning to use the Business Activity Structure Classification System (BASCS) to provide an enterprise view of LAC business activities that connects to the organization’s business value information.
In order to fast-track the development for functional and business requirements for technology enablement, the implementation of the Documentation Standard and the BASCS methodology, the Corporate Management and Government Records Sector (CMGRS) has decided to conduct a study to develop a semantic information architecture and methodology to provide a total solution that can be layered onto a Records Management and Recordkeeping application solution.
LAC has acquired the services of Cogniva to conduct a pilot project based on Cogniva’s recently developed Integrated Semantic Information Services (ISIS) model. This model includes some of the functionality already identified by LAC such as:
- the possibility of mapping the BASCS and PAA structures;
- a richer description of information objects;
- compatibility with the recently developed documentation standards;
- a more automated approach to classification.
The pilot project was developed on a Microsoft Office 2007 platform taking into account compatibility with a future Microsoft Sharepoint or Opentext Livelink infrastructure. All deliverables were on time and on budget, meeting or exceeding expectations.
